Billy Nungesser is the 54th Lieutenant Governor of the state of Louisiana. As Lieutenant Governor, he serves as the Commissioner of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism which includes the State Library, State Museums, State Parks, the Office of Cultural Development, the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, the Office of Tourism and Volunteer Louisiana.
Since taking office in 2016, he and his team have guided the state to record breaking tourism numbers in each of the last four consecutive years.
Upon taking office, several state parks were slated to close. Today, not only have they all remained open, but many are now making money.
In July 2019, he was elected as Chairman of the National Lieutenant Governors Association by his peers, where he promotes shared priorities and fosters multi-state solutions to mutual problems such as imported seafood and seafood safety.
Over the years, he has helped hundreds of charitable organizations, but those he is most passionate about involve veterans and special needs citizens.
In 2019, he was elected to a second term with 68% of the vote, that’s more votes than any other statewide elected official since 2008. He truly is a Lieutenant Governor for ALL of Louisiana.
