Gaspar J. "Buddy" Stall was born and raised in New Orleans. He retired in 2000vice president of public relations for Radiofone. Throughout his career he has beeninvolved in sales, public relations and volunteer work to give something back to thecommunity.Buddy is the author of eleven books, Buddy Stall's New Orleans, Buddy Stall'sFrench Quarter Montage, Buddy Stall's Sometimes We Must Laugh To Keep FromCrying, Buddy Stall's Big Easy, Buddy Stall's Crescent City, Buddy Stall's LouisianaCOD, Buddy Stall's Louisiana Potpourri, Mardi Gras and Bacchus Something Old,Something New, Friends, Enemies and Victims, The New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club125thAnniversary, and Proud Peculiar New Orleans, The Inside Story.As an after dinner speaker, he addresses over 100 civic, business and fraternalgroups a year. He has thus far done over 600 television commercials and ispresently doing radio commercials for New Orleans International Airport. Buddy alsodoes numerous radio and television appearances every month. New OrleansMagazine is quoted as stating, "Gaspar J. Stall isn't your run-of-the-mill history buff.He is more like a preacher - comedian - history teacher - salesman rolled into onedynamic package. He speaks with the fervor of a preacher; tells a few jokes like astand-up comedian; adds a lot of unknown facts about the history of New Orleans...most of all he is adept on all fronts and he has become one of the most sought afterspeakers in the state."Buddy has been married for 54 years to his lovely wife Margaret. They have fourchildren (Peggy, Gary, Kirt and Laurie) and ten grandchildren (James, Wesley, Gary,Chris, Kay, Rita, Tracy, Patrick, Kelly and Claire).While president of the New Orleans East Kiwanis Club, Buddy was instrumental in aprogram whereby 250,000 pine trees were distributed in the New Orleans East area.These trees can still be seen today as part of the landscaping of New Orleans East.While heading the New Orleans East Kiwanis Club, Buddy was also active inbuilding and installing bird houses for the hospitals and retirement homes in thearea, along with bus stop benches for the convenience of elderly and handicappedpeople. Buddy also played Santa Claus for nursing homes in New Orleans East formany years.With two of his children being diabetic, he has been active in the Juvenile DiabetesFoundation, and he was involved with the group that was able to get a camp inLouisiana for diabetic children. Prior to that, children of Louisiana were required togo to Texas or Alabama for summer camp. Profits from the 1993 sale of Buddy'sbook, Buddv Stall's Sometimes We Must Lauqh To Keep From Crvinq, weredonated to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation for research and cure efforts. Profitsfrom his most recent book, Buddv Stall's Crescent City, were also donated to theJuvenile Diabetes Foundation. There is now a Gaspar J. "Buddy" Stall researchgrant on the Tulane Medical School list. The research is done in the area of PA/PAI-1 balance in diabetic nephropathy. There is also a doctoral research fellowship atthe University of Massachusetts Medical Center called the Gaspar J. "Buddy" StallResearch Fellowship. The fellowship supports work on RAB Proteins and Insulin
